Summary:
Centuries ago, the barriers between our world and the Otherworld were slashed open allowing hideous fantastical monsters to wreak havoc; destroying entire cities in their wake. Now, people must live in enclosed communities, behind walls that keep them safe from the evil creatures constantly trying to break in. Only the corps of teen Hunters with lightning reflexes and magical abilities can protect the populace from the daily attacks.
Joyeaux Charmand is a mountain girl from a close knit village who comes to the big city to join the Hunters. Joy thinks she is only there to perform her civic duty and protect the capitol Cits, or civilians, but as cameras follow her every move, she soon learns that the more successful she is in her hunts, the more famous she becomes.
With millions of fans watching her on reality TV, Joy begins to realize that Apex is not all it seems. She is forced to question everything she grew up believing about the legendary Hunters and the very world she lives in. Soon she finds that her fame may be part of a deep conspiracy that threatens to upend the protective structure built to keep dark magic out. The monsters are getting in and it is up to Joy to find out why.
Uh, so this sounds AMAZING. Both Sci-Fi and Fantasy? Yes, please. Not to mention that Mercedes Lackey is a bestselling and celebrated fantasy author, so it's bound to be good. Count me in!

I recently saw this on goodreads and what immediately struck me is the creep factor of the cover!! this looks really good :)
ReplyDeleteYes, it has an intriguingly creepy cover!
DeleteWow this sounds so creepy. Like the hunger games with the reality TV part.
ReplyDeleteMy Waiting on Wednesday
So true, Christine. I thought that, too. Hopefully it won't borrow too much from the Hunger Games.
DeleteI'm super curious about this book. I hope it is great!! Nice pick. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Christy! If I ever get my hands on it, I'll let you know how it is.
DeleteHi! I've been thinking about requesting this book on NetGalley. I instantly fell in love with the summary. It seems such an interesting story.
ReplyDeleteHappy readings! :)
I also saw it on NetGalley, Thannya, but I prefer reading novels in print, so I'm going to wait till it's published.
DeleteI read the first of the One Dozen Daughters novels, and it didn't really work for me. And I can already imagine the ending of this one, so... Hope you enjoy, though. =)
ReplyDeleteMy WoW
I haven't read anything by Mercedes Lackey yet. Hopefully I like this one if I start with it.
DeleteGreat choice! I am really looking forward to this one too. I've been seeing it around quite a lot recently.
ReplyDeleteKrystianna @ Downright Dystopian
Thanks, Krystianna! If you get ahold of it before I do, let me know how it is!
DeleteI didn't realize this was sci-fi fantasy! I actually got an ARC of this though I didn't know much about it or who the author was so now I'm more excited to read it! Great WoW pick!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Let me know how it is after you finish reading it.
DeleteThanks for stopping by!
Ooh, now this does sound interesting, doesn't it? I'm getting a very Clash of Titan feel, even though I didn't progress with that series. The feel of the synopsis' feel very similar, and it's really interesting that teenagers are both the ones to take these monstrous creatures down and protect the city. For me, that's a little unbelievable, but this also sounds like it's going to be surprising. I hope it's a fantastic read for you, Rosie! xx
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Romi! Once I get my hands on a copy, I'll let you know how it is.
DeleteI'm so excited for this one!! It looks like an interesting read. I love that it's sci-fi fantasy. :)
ReplyDeleteSame here! I really like the cover art, too. It's different from the usual YA fantasy titles floating around.
DeleteThanks for visiting, Kaitlin!
I was lucky enough to win an ARC of this one, and I CANNOT WAIT TO READ IT ALREADY! IT SOUNDS AMAZING. Sorry for the all caps..... Anyway, I have never read anything by Mercedes Lackey, but I have wanted to. Now is my chance!
